“44º North” Downeast Open Art Showcase Opens May 25

Schooner Gallery opens this Saturday, May 25th, with our 2nd Annual “44º North” Downeast Open Art Showcase. We host this art show to celebrate Maine artists who are residents and live within 44 nautical miles of Milbridge (50.6 miles). On display will be artwork from a wide range of artists, inspired by this 44º North environment in which we live. The show will run through June 22nd, with an opening reception on Saturday, May 25th, from 4:30pm to 6:30pm.

Schooner Gallery of Milbridge will host its 2nd Annual “44º North” Downeast Open Art Showcase celebrating Maine artists who are residents and live within 44 nautical miles of Milbridge (50.6 miles). Artists of any age and training are invited to submit their artwork inspired by this 44º North environment we live in. This exciting late-Spring Art Event will be held at the Schooner Gallery, 59 Main Street, Milbridge.

Show dates will be May 25th through June 22nd, with an opening reception on Saturday, May 25th, from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. Drop off dates, in-person at the gallery, for artworks in all media are Monday and Tuesday, May 20th and 21st, from 9:30am to 4:30pm.

A maximum of 2 pieces per person, made within the last two years, no larger than 30”x40” will be accepted. 3-D work will also be accepted on a limited basis (some pedestals are available). All artwork must be labeled and wall pieces must be ready to hang with picture wires attached. Sorry no mailed or shipped entries can be accepted. 2nd Annual Fiber Arts Show Opens

This show runs September 8th through October 14th, and features works by Audra Christie, Tim Fisher, Gillyin Gatto, Jillian, Shira Joy, Marion LaFollette, Gail Moorhouse, Meg Nalle, Jeanne Perkins, Lee-lee Schlegel and Jude Valentine. An Artists’ Reception will be held on Saturday, September 15th, from 4:30 to 6:30 PM. Additional artwork is on display by Siri Beckman, Kathleen Buchanan, Obadiah Buell, Hugh Lassen, Rebekah Raye, and Margaret Williams.

Our mid-summer art show is now open. The featured artists are: Lynn Karlin (photography), Eline Barclay (painting), Carol Sloane (oil stick), Robert Miller (watercolor), Gail Page (painting), and Carol Raybin (painting).

In her “Pedestal Series”, Lynn Karlin has created photographs of vegetables in striking poses. She recently had an exhibition in Pawling, NY that was written up in the NY Times (Home & Garden May 16, 2012).

Eline Barclay returns to Schooner Gallery with her landscapes that evoke moods from mysterious foreboding to quiet solitude through images of coastal waters, hills and skies.

Some additional variations on coastal landscapes can be seen in the artworks by Carol Sloane and Carol Raybin. Also in this exhibition are abstracts with an Eden theme by Robert Miller and the “Teapot Series” by Gail Page.

This show runs through September 1st. An Artists’ Reception will be held on Saturday, August 4th, 4:30pm to 6:30pm.

Ongoing displays include sculptures by Hugh Lassen, Margaret Williams, and Obadiah Buell, and prints by Rebekah Raye, Siri Beckman, and Kathleen Buchanan.

Stone sculptures enhance our outdoors appearance

We now have artwork on the gallery lawn. On July 18th, Obadiah Buell installed four of his large stone sculptures on the front lawn. More works by Obadiah are on display both inside and outside of the gallery. Also, in our gift shop you can find many of his smaller functional stone items, such as utensils, buttons, vases, and pendants.
